Overview

Andor is an Oxford Instruments company who are specialists at the high-value end of the global scientific digital camera market.

For this project, Andor were adding two new, state of the art sCMOS based cameras to their already industry leading lineup of microscopes.

The cameras’ original CAD files were converted and optimised to be animated and rendered in Maxon Cinema 4D. All compositing and additional elements were added in Adobe After Effects. Final touches and sound design were done in Adobe Premiere Pro.

What Was Required?

Design, 3D Modelling, Animation, Compositing

Process

Planning, Asset Creation & Conversion

Similar to Andor’s recently released cameras (Sona and Marana), Balor has it’s own usecases and it needed it’s own identity. Again, like the previous Sona and Marana project, we took some to convert the CAD models of Balor. We then agreed on a script and got to work designing up the additional elements required to show off Balor’s solar and space imagery. Maxon Cinema 4D was used to convert the CAD model while some other elements were helped along with additional designing and compositing in Adobe After Effects.

Process

3D Animation & Rendering

Animation brought all the elements together and allowed the script to come to life. Animation occurred in both Maxon Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects depending where the particular asset was designed. Additional text and messaging was added at this stage. OTOY OctaneRender was the render engine of choice.

Compositing & Editing

All the animation assets were brought together to be composited in Adobe After Effects. At this stage any additional ‘fluff’ including transitions were ironed out. Final editing, sound choices and colour grading were done in Adobe Premiere Pro.
